Gran Torino

My wife and I went to see Gran Torino this past Saturday night. It’s an excellent movie, and Clint Eastwood’s performance as Walt Kowalski was perfect. I won’t give anything away, but it’s both a depressing movie and an uplifting movie. Perhaps bittersweet is a good word to describe it. It is definitely worth the price of admission, even at $9 a ticket.

I read somewhere that Gran Torino was supposed to be the last Dirty Harry movie. Was wondering if you thought the movie would work if the character was Dirty Harry instead of Walt Kowalski?

Not at all. The only similarities between the two are neither one are very talkative and they were both played by Clint Eastwood. The movie wouldn’t have been nearly as good with Dirty Harry as the main character. I would even go so far as to say that the movie wouldn’t have worked without Walt.
I liked all of the Dirty Harry movies (well, Dead Pool was so-so), but Gran Torino is so much better. More realistic, more human, and it had an ending that even Bruce would love.

If I say any more it may spoil the ending.

Ah, come on Bob, you can spoil the ending. Bruce isn’t going to see it anyway.
