Personally, I do think there was something “not quite right” with the recent election in Iran, but like everyone else I have no proof. Furthermore, it’s none of our freaking business! The Iranian people are dealing with this at the moment, so President Obama is doing the right thing in my book. The main reason people don’t like the U.S. the world over is because we often stick our nose in other peoples’ business. Our intentions are irrelevant and religious reasons are pure bullshit. Let them work it out for themselves and we’ll all be better off.

Years ago, TV newscasters presented the news in an unbiased way as possible. Their job was to present the news, not to offer opinions or to get up on their soapbox, and they knew it (and acted accordingly). This was an extension of the FCC’s “Fairness Doctrine” policy, which it abolished in 1985. In 1987 Congress attempted to make it a law, but Reagan vetoed the legislation. CommonDreams.org has a good piece from 2005 on why we need the Fairness Doctrine reinstated, but the FCC and others have said that if that were to happen it could apply to the Web as well.

Now, with that out of the way, check out this infuriatingly-great video at DailyKosTV.com that illustrates just how far we’ve fallen.

The few of you that don’t know me that may have read my previous post might think I’m anti-Christian, anti-religion, etc. Let me assure you, that that’s not the case. While I may sit on the agnostic-atheist fence, I have no problem with the teachings of Jesus. I can agree with just about everything attributed to Jesus…be nice to others, turn the other cheek, that kind of stuff. As the late, great Louis Armstrong said in the beginning of “What a Wonderful World”

Some of you young folks been saying to me,
“Hey Pops, what you mean ‘What a wonderful world’?”
How about all them wars all over the place?
You call them wonderful?
And how about hunger and pollution?
They ain’t so wonderful either.
Well how about listening to old Pops for a minute.
Seems to me, it ain’t the world that’s so bad, but what we’re doin’ to it.
And all I’m saying is see what a wonderful world it would be if only we’d give it a chance.
Love baby, love, that’s the secret. Yeahhhhhh.
If lots more of us loved each other we’d solve lots more problems.
And man, this world would be a gasser.
That’s why ol’ Pops keeps saying…

Anyway, here’s a great interview with my newest favorite “public Christian,” Frank Schaeffer.

I can see why the automakers want one fuel economy standard, because it makes life easier on them. But the real reason they don’t want California (and those states that will follow suit) to be able to set their own standard is because it’s more stringent than the national standard. But hey, the automakers could always just engineer their fleet to meet the more stringent requirements. It’s about time anyway, as even China has more stringent standards than the U.S.A. does.

If the RNC weren’t in the pocket of Big Business and stuck to their guns, they’d be all for California having their own standards. I mean, it is a “States’ Rights” issue, isn’t it?
