It may have been my last day of work but, as usual, I still slept through my alarm and woke up 10 minutes before I should be leaving for my morning commute. I roll out of bed and make my way to the bathroom, and smile when I see the "We made it!" poster my wife had made for me and hung up on the vanity mirror. The following quotes she had on the poster answer the "Why?" pretty well.

"Everything starts with an idea."

A few years ago we did the math and realized we could live on one paycheck. It started out as dreams of one of us quitting their job for a year and being a "stay-at-home spouse," handling most of the housework and grocery shopping and cooking. A nice change of pace for one, while the other gets meals made for them and gets to relax after work. The problem was, both of us wanted to be the one to stay at home. Then a little over a year ago Liz was looking at our "financials" and came up with the idea that if we could save $X then we'd have enough to live on while we both take a year off. As soon as she brought up the idea I was in 100%. So we tightened the belt a bit and here we are!

Guess it comes down to a simple choice really. Get busy living, or get busy dying.
(Andy Dufresne, The Shawshank Redemption)

All men die, not every man truly lives.
(Andy Dufresne, The Shawshank Redemption)

The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existance is an act of rebellion.
(Albert Camus)
